The purpose of WADC is to enhance the profession through a series of symposiums, speakers, and exhibitions to promote the professionalism and creativity of its members and to benefit the communication arts community as a whole.
Miniature Art Auction
Despite the name, only the art is small at this auction, one of WADC's bigger events. Members and guest artists create fantastic works of art, all within a mere 8"x8"x8" frame, which is sold to the highest bidder in the course of the evening. The proceeds go to WADC Student Grant and Events funds. This fun and memorable auction is held in Palo Alto, California.
Student Liaison
WADC maintains a commitment to the local educational community with a variety of outreach programs, including portfolio presentations to students and events of interest to both students and working professionals. Currently, we are actively involved with the south bay's premiere junior college design departments at Mission College and Foothill College. In many cases, our events and interaction is an introduction to WADC.
In 2006, WADC began a partnership with the Bay Area Regional New Media Center (formerly the South Bay Regional New Media Center), located on the campus of Mission College. We locate professional speakers to present at Mission's state-of-the-art facilities and publicize the events among professionals, and our partners provide free parking and refreshments. All events are free with pre-registration for students and professionals. Our first event was Global Fusion: An Art and Culture Collaborative Project featuring a designer and writer who traveled the world for 12 months collaborate with other artists and cultures. In the fall of 2006, a marketing consultant spoke gave a talk on Left Brain Marketing for Creative Professionals. These events were very popular among students and creative professionals.
Check our calendar often for upcoming events.
Show and Tell
WADC believes inspiration is integral to being a super creative. Periodically, WADC features guest presenters who come share their passion with us, whether it is strictly visual problem-solving for clients, or the visual arts for arts sake. In 2006 we held Tiki Talk with Otto von Stroheim in San Francisco which was nothing short of inspirational.
Getting to Know You
Every third Monday of the month the WADC General Meeting hosts the Executive Board, WADC members and a guest appearance by one of WADC’s Advisory Board members, to discuss active WADC issues and events included or apart from those listed above. Attendance of non-members is allowed and encouraged; this is the best way to discover WADC up close, and to get involved. H'ordeurves provided. See Calendar for times and locations.
Klvb WADC has been, for over ten years, our official Happy Hour, and prime networking opportunity. It’s a chance for members and non-members alike to meet, relax, see old friends and colleagues while making new ones. See Calendar for times and locations.
